30 November 2024, Saturday- The Jozini Local Municipality, under the leadership of His Worship, Mayor Cllr. Mfananaye Mathe, has taken a significant step in improving service delivery and addressing infrastructure challenges. Mayor Mathe officially handed over yellow plant equipment valued at over R31 million to enhance road construction and other municipal projects, eliminating reliance on the tendering system.
This strategic investment will result in substantial cost savings for the municipality, allowing funds to be redirected to other essential community projects. During the handover event, Mayor Mathe highlighted the persistent challenge of constructing and maintaining access roads in Jozini, especially during the rainy season.
The newly acquired equipment includes:
• 2 Tipper Trucks
• 2 TLBs
• 1 Roller
• 1 Water Tanker
• 1 Excavator
• 1 Low Bed Truck
Mayor Mathe assured residents that the equipment would benefit all 23 wards within the municipality, emphasizing that it is a resource for the entire community.
The event was graced by Honourable Thembeni Madlopha-Mthethwa, the MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development in KwaZulu-Natal. A distinguished guest speaker, Hon. KaMadlopha-Mthethwa, is a proud native of Jozini and the municipality’s first Mayor. She praised Mayor Mathe’s visionary leadership and commended the council for this remarkable achievement.
Addressing the audience, Hon. KaMadlopha-Mthethwa reflected on her mentorship of Mayor Mathe, describing him as a son she nurtured and expressing her pride in his accomplishments. She reaffirmed that the Jozini Local Municipality is making commendable progress under his leadership.
