The Jozini Local Municipality, under the leadership of His Worship, Mayor Cllr Mfananaye Mathe, proudly walked away with five prestigious accolades at the 2025 Annual KwaZulu‑Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (KZN CoGTA) Awards. These honours which were also attended by the Honourable Premier of KwaZulu Natal, Mr Thami Ntuli, and the MEC of CoGTA in KwaZulu Natal, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi and many other Mayors of other districts and local municipalities, recognise excellence in governance, service delivery and community development, stand as a powerful endorsement of the strides the municipality has made in improving the quality of life for all residents.
The accolades received by Jozini Local Municipality are as follows:
1. Gold Award: Best Local Economic Development (LED) Strategy
Recognises the municipality’s robust and inclusive LED strategy, which fosters entrepreneurship, supports local businesses and creates sustainable job opportunities for the community.
2. Gold Award: Best Disaster Management Volunteer Programme
Celebrates the effective mobilisation, training and coordination of community volunteers who play a vital role in disaster risk reduction, preparedness and rapid response during emergencies.
3. Silver Award: Best Integrated Development Plan (IDP) 2024/2025
Acknowledges the municipality’s well‑structured and forward‑thinking IDP, which outlines strategic priorities and guides inclusive development in a manner responsive to community needs.
4. Bronze Award: Best Managed Sports Field Project – Makhana Sports Field (Ward 13)
Highlights the successful implementation and maintenance of the Makhana Sports Field, a key recreational facility promoting youth development, sportsmanship and community cohesion.
5. Bronze Award: Best Managed Community Hall Project
Recognises the effective management and upkeep of community halls, reflecting the municipality’s commitment to creating safe and accessible spaces for public gatherings, cultural activities and civic engagement.
In response to this outstanding achievement, Mayor Cllr Mfananaye Mathe extended his heartfelt congratulations to staff, Councilors and stakeholders, stating:
