His Worship, Cllr Nkosinathi Myeni, has tabled his first Draft Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and Budget as the Mayor of Jozini Local Municipality for the 2025/2026 financial year. The total proposed budget stands at R395.7 million.
Acknowledging the financial constraints facing the Municipality, Mayor Myeni was open about the challenges in maintaining and improving service delivery. However, he assured residents that both he and Council remain committed to managing public funds responsibly and transparently, with a clear focus on impact and accountability.
Key Budget Highlights:
• Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG):
A total of R45.7 million has been allocated from MIG to support infrastructure development.
• Department of Community Services – R11.8 million
This allocation will support:
• Environmental Management initiatives
• Strengthened partnerships with all seven Amakhosi under Jozini Local Municipality
• Office of the Municipal Manager – R16.8 million
This includes:
• Ward Upliftment Projects – over R8 million
• Operation Sukuma Sakhe – R2 million
• Funding for Sports Development and Community Bursaries
Infrastructure Development and Roads:
Improving road infrastructure remains a top priority. The Mayor has committed to the construction and rehabilitation of roads across all 23 wards, with specific focus on:
• uMlingo Access Road
• Ngwavuma Access Road
To support these efforts, the Municipality will be making full use of its yellow plant and has established a working partnership with the Department of Transport to share resources and technical expertise.
Investment in Key Sectors: Agriculture, Tourism and Sport:
Recognising the strategic importance of Agriculture and Tourism for local economic growth, the budget makes provision for development in these sectors. Plans are also in place for the construction of:
• Three new sports fields
• Two new community halls
Electrification Projects:
An amount of R4.2 million has been set aside for electrification in Wards 3, 9 and 10, helping to bring essential services to more households.
The Draft IDP and Budget were well received by members of the public, who expressed appreciation for the Mayor’s transparency and leadership. Community members pledged their support in working collaboratively with the Municipality to achieve shared development goals.
