Honourable Mayor Nkosinathi Scelo Myeni, together with the respected Councillors, has officially handed over eight (08) electric maize grinding machines to the farmers and community of Ward 15, thereby fulfilling the mandate entrusted to him by the people.
The farmers of Ward 15 will no longer have to travel across to Eswatini to grind their maize, as the Honourable Mayor, working closely with the Ward Councillor, has ensured that this essential service is now available within the ward.
These machines, which will be placed across all villages in the ward, will assist in the following ways:
▪️The Jozini Municipality had previously purchased a tractor for the farmers, but once they had harvested, they were left without maize-grinding machines.
▪️This forced them to carry their maize across the border to Eswatini in order to grind it into mealie-meal.
▪️The newly handed over machines will grind maize into either mealie-meal or crushed maize.
Jozini is widely recognised as both an agricultural and tourism hub, and such initiatives further demonstrate the Municipality’s commitment to supporting farmers while promoting local economic development.
The Honourable Mayor Myeni warmly commended this community, under the leadership of Honourable Councillor Mabaleka Roman Mathenjwa. He further assured the people that he would return to deliver wards upliftment projects requests they had made before December, emphasising that he wishes to handover to the people of Ward 15 directly in the area of Ward 15 rather than requiring the community to travel to Jozini which is more than 70 kilometres away.
